City of Crossville State Team Championship

The City of Crossville State Team Championship honoring PGA Professional Bobby Nichols was held at Lake Tansi Village Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. Ideal weather conditions on both days greeted 25 teams to the 36-hole event at Lake Tansi to compete for the championship. With the course in top condition, play began on Monday morning with a double-tee start from 8:30 AM to 9:50 AM and an afternoon wave from 12:40 PM to 1:20 PM. Four teams showed that they came to play by firing a combined 12-under par 60 to tie for the lead at the end of Day 1. Those teams were made up of Keith Burdette, Mitch Huffstetter, Heath Pendergrast and Bob Rice; Casey Flenniken, Mike Poe, Rick Mays and Michael Alread; Jerry Williams, Keith Newport, Chris Smith and Tom White; and Nathan Blanchard, Jamie Elliott, Brad Campbell and Jeff Cranford. 5 teams came in shooting 11-under par 61 and 3 others at 10-under 62 to stay right on the heels of the leaders and put pressure on them going into Day 2. Casey Flenniken, PGA of Landmark Golf Club of Avalon fired a very impressive 6-under par 66 to capture the individual low round of the day.
Final round play began on Tuesday with a morning double-tee start going from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Teams in contention knew that they had to play aggressive in order to stay on top and have a shot at winning the championship. With low scores continuing to come in throughout the day nobody was able to top the team of Loren Personett, Paul Brannon, Matt Jeffers, and Todd Bradley, who came in with a score of 12-under par 60 to go with their first day total of 61 for a 36-hole team score of 23-under par 121 and the right to be called champions.
The individual stroke play low scores saw Regular Amateur James Van De Griff shoot a 68-66 for a total of 10-under par 134. Casey Flenniken also played spectacular golf on both days shooting 66-67 for a total of 11-under par 133 and the Regular Professional crown. Bob Rice had the low score for the Senior Amateurs shooting 69-69 for a 6-under par 138 while Randy Helton took home the low score in the Senior Professional Division firing a 69-68 for a 7-under par 137.
